%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20view%20from%20one%20of%20our%20windows.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPerhaps%20the%20most%20positive%20development%20to%20arise%20from%20all%20of%20this%20change,%20though,%20has%20been%20the%20chance%20to%20see%20people%20more%20regularly.%20We%E2%80%99ve%20had%20several%20visitors%20to%20see%20our%20place%20already%20and%20we%E2%80%99ve%20been%20able%20to%20return%20some%20of%20those%20visits%20in%20kind,%20all%20in%20the%20span%20of%20four%20weeks.%20%20After%20years%20of%20largely%20being%20on%20our%20own%20it%E2%80%99s%20nice%20to%20be%20able%20to%20get%20out%20and%20reconnect%20with%20people%20I%20hadn%E2%80%99t%20seen%20in%20ages,%20and%20since%20I%E2%80%99ve%20been%20working%20at%20home%20I%20can%20strike%20a%20nice%20balance%20between%20social%20and%20quiet%20time%20for%20the%20time%20being.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20speaking%20of%20reconnecting,%20this%20recent%20nasty%20cold%20snap%20has%20drawn%20me%20back%20into%20the%20kitchen%20in%20order%20to%20attempt%20to%20make%20madeleines%20one%20more%20time.%20Last%20winter%20I%20came%20across%20Herm%C3%A8s%E2%80%99s%20recipe%20through%20Cherry%20Bombe%20and%20had%20purchased%20a%20madeleine%20pan%20to%20try%20them%20out%20for%20myself,%20but%20every%20time%20I%20baked%20them%20the%20things%20came%20out%20overly%20browned%20on%20top.%20A%20nice%20exchange%20on%20Twitter%20with%20the%20article%E2%80%99s%20author%20made%20me%20realize%20that%20I%20should%20have%20probably%20gotten%20the%20traditional%20shiny%20pan%20instead%20of%20the%20nonstick%20version,%20and%20on%20a%20whim%20I%20asked%20for%20one%20for%20Christmas%20to%20give%20them%20another%20try%20this%20year.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20guess%20it%20shouldn%E2%80%99t%20come%20as%20a%20surprise%20that%20the%20traditional%20method%20yielded%20perfectly-baked%20cakes%20with%20just%20the%20right%20shade%20of%20golden-brown%20on%20top,%20but%20after%20too%20many%20rounds%20of%20not-quite-right%20it%20was%20a%20bit%20of%20a%20shock,%20albeit%20a%20pleasant%20one,%20for%20me%20to%20see%20them%20come%20out%20so%20well%20and%20so%20simply.%20My%20hope%20is%20to%20start%20keeping%20these%20around%20the%20house%20so%20that%20I%20have%20a%20nice%20home-baked%20treat%20to%20offer%20to%20any%20visitors%20we%20receive,%20but%20if%20things%20go%20well%20maybe%20I%E2%80%99ll%20just%20have%20to%20start%20sending%20care%20packages%20with%20Michael%20that%20he%20can%20take%20to%20his%20office.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20bowl%20whisk%20the%20eggs%20and%20the%20sugar%20and%20then%20start%20incorporating%20the%20remaining%20ingredients%20one%20at%20a%20time,%20taking%20the%20time%20to%20mix%20each%20ingredient%20well.%20Cover%20with%20plastic%20and%20then%20place%20in%20the%20fridge%20for%20a%20few%20hours%20to%20overnight%20to%20let%20the%20zest%20infuse%20into%20the%20dough.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20an%20oven%20to%20400%20degrees%20Fahrenheit%20for%20about%20twenty%20minutes%20and%20grease%20the%20madeleine%20pan%20with%20butter%20and%20then%20dust%20with%20flour.%20Using%20a%20small%20spoon%20(flouring%20it%20helps%20the%20batter%20not%20stick%20to%20it)%20fill%20each%20mold%20about%202/3%20full%20with%20batter,%20and%20then%20bake%20in%20the%20oven%20for%2012-15%20minutes.%20Remove,%20let%20cool,%20and%20serve%20with%20tea.%20While%20they%20taste%20best%20the%20day%20they%20are%20made,%20if%20well%20contained%20they%20will%20be%20tasty%20for%20at%20least%20a%20week.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
