Not So Traditional Chili Recipe

This is great as a messy burrito. The measurements are not precise, but it always turns out delicious. It is one of children's most requested meals.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 lbs.ground turkey
  • 1 yellow or white chopped onion
  • 1-2 chili peppers OR 1 4oz can diced green chillies
  • 1 8oz can tomato sauce
  • 1-2 large squirts ketchup
  • 2-5 TBLS chili powder
  • 3 cans beans (kidney, black or whatever is handy)
  • 3-4 mini Hershey bars (or whatever chocolate you have handy)
  • flour tortillas
  • grated cheese
  • chopped lettuce
  • chopped tomatoes
  • chopped green onions

Directions

  1. Over medium-high heat, brown turkey in a heavy pot (I usually use a Dutch oven) with onions and chilies
  2. Drain fat
  3. Add chili powder - mix well
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, beans and chocolate
  5. Turn down heat to low and let simmer for about 45 minutes - stirring often
  6. As the chili is simmering, grate cheese, cut lettuce, tomatoes and green onions
  7. Warm tortillas
  8. Assemble burritos with chili and any garnishes you choose
