Madeleine has a new bento (sent from Japan) this year – blue with a lucky white bunny. Today’s lunch (bottom photo) was a peanut butter sandwich, walnuts, cheese, whole grain crackers in the large section (pictured), plus a variety of other things, including our homemade granola bars, in the other compartment. The first photo is the lunch I just packed – a garden of pasta with shaved parmesan dotted with little cheesy flowers accompanied by a mini flower shaped cheese sandwich on homemade white bread.
Sadly, the other portion of the bento (below) is a super cruddy photo (their eyes aren’t quite so beady) of the little strawberry mice sneaking quietly out of a bacon wall to fight over a piece of cheese, plus a small granola bar,…

%20this%20year%20%E2%80%93%20blue%20with%20a%20lucky%20white%20bunny.%20%20Today%E2%80%99s%20lunch%20(bottom%20photo)%20was%20a%20peanut%20butter%20sandwich,%20walnuts,%20cheese,%20whole%20grain%20crackers%20in%20the%20large%20section%20(pictured),%20plus%20a%20variety%20of%20other%20things,%20including%20our%20homemade%20granola%20bars,%20in%20the%20other%20compartment.%20%20The%20first%20photo%20is%20the%20lunch%20I%20just%20packed%20%E2%80%93%20a%20garden%20of%20pasta%20with%20shaved%20parmesan%20dotted%20with%20little%20cheesy%20flowers%20accompanied%20by%20a%20mini%20flower%20shaped%20cheese%20sandwich%20on%20homemade%20white%20bread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESadly,%20the%20other%20portion%20of%20the%20bento%20(below)%20is%20a%20super%20cruddy%20photo%20(their%20eyes%20aren%E2%80%99t%20quite%20so%20beady)%20of%20the%20little%20strawberry%20mice%20sneaking%20quietly%20out%20of%20a%20bacon%20wall%20to%20fight%20over%20a%20piece%20of%20cheese,%20plus%20a%20small%20granola%20bar,%20walnuts%20and%20a%20few%20more%20cheesy%20flowers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20my%20bentos%20are%20not%20nearly%20the%20creations%20that%20some%20of%20the%20bento-bloggers%20I%20enjoy%20reading,%20Madeleine%20enjoys%20them%20which%20is%20most%20important%20of%20all.%20%20She%20squeaked%20and%20squealed%20at%20the%20mice%20and%20said%20that%20she%20can%E2%80%99t%20wait%20to%20eat%20her%20lunch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGregory%E2%80%99s%20lunches%20are%20also%20bento%20style%20now%20(we%E2%80%99ve%20really%20tried%20to%20eliminate%20the%20plastic%20sandwich%20bags),%20but%20not%20stylized%20into%20cut%20creatures%20and%20gardens,%20plus%20no%20added%20greenery.%20I%20want%20to%20respect%20the%20reality%20that%20I%E2%80%99m%20fixing%20a%20lunch%20for%20a%20high%20school%20guy%20(who%20can%E2%80%99t%20stand%20cafeteria%20food!)%20whose%20entire%20table%20of%20friends%20will%20look%20at%20what%20he%20has%20in%20his%20lunch.%20(Yes,%20guys%20I%E2%80%99ll%20send%20more%20cookies%E2%80%A6)%20Ironically,%20one%20of%20Gregory%E2%80%99s%20friends%20last%20year%20kept%20suggesting%20that%20I%20send%20him%20a%20lunch,%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20the%20upper%20container%20he%20has%20a%20ham%20sandwich%20on%20fresh%20roll%20from%20Sunday%E2%80%99s%20dough,%20our%20nearly%20famous%20molasses%20cookies,%20a%20yet%20to%20be%20perfected%20homemade%20granola%20bar%20(in%20it%E2%80%99s%20wrap),%20pistachios%20and%20a%20few%20sweets.%20%20In%20the%20lower%20container%20is%20leftover%20carbonara%20(tonight%E2%80%99s%20supper),%20a%20slice%20of%20homemade%20bread,%202%20pieces%20of%20bacon%20and%20some%20ham%20and%20cheese%20roll%20ups.%20(personal%20note:%20He%20was%20studying%20by%20the%20time%20I%20finished%20his%20lunch%20and%20as%20he%20walked%20by%20asked%20me%20what%20I%20was%20doing.%20%20%E2%80%9CBlogging%20your%20lunch,%E2%80%9D%20I%20replied,%20%E2%80%9CWant%20to%20see%20the%20photo%20of%20what%20you%E2%80%99re%20getting?%E2%80%9D%20%20He%20looked%20at%20the%20pictures%20and%20said,%20%E2%80%9CMom,%20you%20are%20so%20good%20at%20this.%E2%80%9D%20%20Those%20are%20the%20comments%20that%20make%20my%20simple%20efforts%20worth%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20really%20enjoy%20making%20lunches.%20%20It%E2%80%99s%20incredibly%20easy%20to%20do%20and%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20take%20long%20at%20all%20when%20a)%20I%20do%20it%20as%20the%20dinner%20dishes%20are%20being%20cleared%20and%20food%20put%20away,%20and%20b)%20when%20I%20have%20a%20plan,%20which%20I%E2%80%99m%20fortunate%20to%20have%20again%20this%20year%20as%20the%20kids%20both%20sat%20down%20with%20me%20a%20couple%20of%20weeks%20ago%20and%20made%20their%20%E2%80%98requests%E2%80%99.%20%20It%20pleases%20me%20that%20the%20kids%20are%20getting%20food%20they%20like%20and%20will%20eat,%20and%20the%20lunches%20are%20more%20nutritious%20than%20Lunchables%20and%20Gogurts.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
