New Orleans Style Bread Pudding Recipe

Ingredients

  •     A wonderful Creole dessert
  •     French bread , broken into very small pcs (about 6 c.)
  • 1 stk butter, melted
  • 8 x Large eggs
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 can (6 oz) evaporated lowfat milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 3/4 c. minced pecans

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in large bowl. Pour into a greased glass baking dish. Cook at 350 degrees for 45 min to 1 hour or possibly till top is golden and springs back when touched.
  2. Bourbon Sauce3/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed1 c. half and half3 Tbsp. unsalted butter1 egg, beaten2 ounces bourbon
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, heat butter. Add in sugar and half and half and whisk till blended. Add in a little of the mix to the beaten egg to temper it, then add in the egg and whisk for about 1 minute. Remove pot from heat and add in bourbon. Return to heat and whisk till sauce is of desired consistency.
  4. Spoon sauce over pudding in bowls and serve hot with good quality vanilla ice cream if you like.
