Directions

  1. In a large bowl: Put together sugar, salt and boiling water. Add in cold water and cool to 105 degrees. Sprinkle yeast over mix. Let stand 5 min.Gradually beat in 4 cups flour. Add in sufficient of remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Knead till smooth. Place in a well greased bowl. Let rise till doubled (1 - 1 1/2 hrs). Punch down and let rise 30 min more.
  2. Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead slightly. Shape into a 14-16 inch tube shape. Place on a baking sheet. Let rise till doubled. Cut 1/4 inch slashes in the top. Brush with egg white glaze. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 min. Cool on wire rack.
  3. If you make this on Saturday, your family will still enjoy it on Sunday if you're lucky to still have some left.
  4. If your kids watch cartoons on Saturday morning, you can easily make this by yourself. If they do not, they can help you and it will take a little longer.
