Add a photoThis has been passed down through the generations. It was my great grandmother's own recipe. I have passed it on to my daughters as well. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have over the years.
Ingredients
- 2 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. crisco shortening
- 1/4 t. salt
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 4 T. cocoa powder
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 t. baking soda
- 2 c. flour
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1 c. boiling water
Directions
- Preheat oven at 350. Spray and flour a 9x13 cake pan.
- Dissolve 1/2 t. baking soda in the buttermilk, set aside.
- Cream together, sugar and crisco until creamy, add the eggs and beat well. Add the remaining ingredients, including the buttermilk and soda mixture. Mix well.
- Pour into prepared pan
- While the cake is still hot, spread butter over the top, allow to cool with cover on pan..
