Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- 3/4 cup oil
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tablespoon butter flavoring
- 1 envelope Dream Whip
- 1 pkg yellow cake mix (no pudding in the mix---use Duncan Hines)
- 1 (small) package instant vanilla or butterscotch pudding
- Topping:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)
- Glaze:
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon butter flavoring
- Grease and flour and oblong angel food cake pan. (or use a regular tube/bundt pan or two regular loaf pans and adjust baking time)

May 23, 2011I made a 1954 recipe coffee cake this past week-end...and it came out okay, (yeast-base), except that it was realy dry. I did everything right...then someone recommended that I use a pan of water under-neathe while the bread is baking in order to keep it moist. that person told me her grandmother used that for all her yeast-based recipes for a no-fail result. Anyone eles do this?- May 23, 2011This coffee cake looks and reads as absolutly amazing! thank you for Sharing it!!

%20to%20make%20the%20recipe%20yours.%20The%20coffee%20cake%20recipe%20that%20I'm%20going%20to%20present%20to%20you%20today,%20is%20not%20my%20own.%20It%20is,%20however,%20an%20example%20of%20a%20recipe%20that%20is%20very%20adaptable--it%20is%20very%20easy%20to%20swap%20out%20ingredients%20and%20make%20an%20entirely%20different%20cake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirst,%20let's%20take%20a%20look%20at%20the%20basic%20recipe.%20Truthfully,%20I'm%20not%20sure%20who%20to%20give%20credit*%20to%20for%20this%20one%20as%20it's%20been%20in%20the%20family%20for%20years.%20Even%20in%20its%20original%20form,%20it%20is%20a%20very%20popular%20cake....cinnamony,%20moist,%20sweet,%20portable....you%20get%20the%20picture.%20Here%20is%20the%20recipe:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20Favorite%20Coffee%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECake:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20mixing%20bowl,%20combine%20all%20of%20the%20cake%20ingredients.%20Beat%20a%20low%20speed%20for%2030%20seconds%20to%20combine,%20then%20beat%20at%20med/high%20speed%20for%206%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%201/2%20the%20batter%20into%20the%20prepared%20pan.%20Sprinkle%20with%201/2%20of%20the%20topping%20mixture.%20Pour%20in%20remaining%20batter%20and%20sprinkle%20with%20remaining%20topping.%20Cut%20through%20the%20batter%20with%20a%20knife%20to%20swirl%20in%20the%20topping.%20Bake%2050-60%20minutes%20or%20until%20a%20tester%20comes%20out%20clean.%20Cool%20for%20at%20least%2010%20minutes%20in%20the%20pan%20before%20removing.%20Drizzle%20with%20glaze,%20if%20desired.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20where%20I%20started%20changing%20things%20around%20with%20this%20batch.%20I%20blended%20together%201/4%20cup%20softened%20butter%20with%202%20tablespoons%20flour,%201/2%20cup%20of%20brown%20sugar%20and%20a%20teaspoon%20of%20cinnamon.%20You%20can%20see%20in%20some%20of%20the%20pictures%20where%20this%20mixture%20might%20have%20been%20a%20bit%20heavy---it%20didn't%20swirl%20nicely%20and%20settled%20near%20the%20bottom.%20But%20it%20was%20very%20tasty%20and%20I%20would%20make%20it%20this%20way%20again!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20took%20a%20few%20liberties%20again%20with%20the%20glaze.%20Since%20I'm%20not%20a%20huge%20fan%20of%20raw%20powdered%20sugar,%20I%20made%20a%20very%20easy%20penuche%20glaze.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20see%20just%20how%20easy%20and%20versatile%20this%20recipe%20is---swap%20out%20chocolate%20cake%20for%20the%20yellow,%20chocolate%20pudding%20mix%20for%20the%20vanilla,%20and%20use%20some%20Oreo%20crumbs%20and%20mini%20chocolate%20chips%20for%20the%20middle.%20Or%20use%20the%20Butterscotch%20pudding%20and%20swirl%20in%20some%20chocolate%20syrup.%20Let%20your%20taste%20buds%20be%20your%20guide.....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*My%20sister%20just%20informed%20me%20of%20the%20origins%20of%20this%20wonderful%20treat.%20Apparently,%20it%20is%20known%20as%20%22That%22%20Coffee%20Cake%20or%20%22Shiva%22%20Cake%20and%20is%20a%20very%20popular%20recipe%20belonging%20to%20Temple%20Israel%20in%20Minneapolis.%20They%20even%20take%20orders%20for%20this%20stuff....see,%20and%20now%20you%20can%20make%20it%20at%20home.%20:)%20%20She%20also%20wanted%20to%20pass%20along%20that%20this%20cake,%20made%20in%20its%20original%20form,%20tastes%20great%20toasted%20and%20smeared%20with%20butter.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
