Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 x onions thinly sliced
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  •     Salt to taste
  •     Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 c. sherry
  • 1 dsh nutmeg
  • 1 pkt au jus gravy
  • 1 x French baguette
  •     Garlic oil
  •     Roast beef slices
  •     Provolone or possibly Mozzarella cheese slices

Directions

  1. Heat butter over medium heat and saute/fry onions with sugar and salt and pepper to taste. Cook onions till soft, about 5 min. Add in sherry, increase heat and cook 2 to 3 min more. Add in dash of nutmeg and set aside.
  2. Make packaged au jus gravy according to package directions.
  3. Slice French baguette into sandwich-size slices. Brush halves with garlic oil and broil till toasted. Layer sandwiches accordingly: baguette bottom, roast beef dipped in gravy, onions, slices of provolone or possibly Mozzarella cheese and baguette top. Serve remaining gravy on the side for dipping. Add in a big salad or possibly soup for a quick, delicious dinner.
  4. Tip: To further cut down time, use half a bag of frzn minced onions and purchase prepared garlic bread to broil.
