Molly's Best Chocolate Sheet Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 6 T lowfat milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 pound box powdered sugar (about 4 1/2 c.)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 c. nuts, minced

Directions

  1. Mix the flour and sugar; set aside. Heat the cocoa, water, butter, and shortening in a pan and bring to a boil. Mix together the soda (dissolved in the buttermilk), large eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon. Add in the flour and sugar mix to the hot mix. Add in the buttermilk, flour, and sugar mix; beat well. Bake in an 11 x 16 inch pan for 20 min at 375 degrees. Be sure to grease and flour the pan.
  2. Bring to a boil the cocoa, lowfat milk, and butter. Remove from heat and add in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and nuts; mix well. Pour over the hot cake.
