Ingredients
- 1 c. lowfat milk
- 1 c. heavy cream
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 Large eggs
- 10-12 slices French bread, lightly toasted and buttered on both sides
- 1 c. Michigan Dry Cherries
- 1 sm. Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 c. coarsely minced walnuts
Directions
- In a medium saucepan combine lowfat milk, cream, sugar and vanilla and bring to a boil. In a bowl beat Large eggs lightly. Pour half the lowfat milk mix into the Large eggs, whisking continuously, then add in egg mix to remaining lowfat milk in saucepan.
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Butter a shallow 1 1/2 or possibly 2-qt baking dish. Sprinkle bottom of dish with 1/2 c. Michigan Dry Cherries. Arrange alternating rows of bread and apple slices along bottom of dish beginning and ending with bread. Sprinkle with remaining Michigan Dry Cherries, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and walnuts. Pour custard over top and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon.
