  • 125 gm Plain flour, (4oz)
  • 1 Tbsp. Caster sugar
  • 50 gm Butter, (2oz)
  • 1 med Size egg yolk
  • 1 Tbsp. Cool water
  • 125 gm Minced pecan nuts, (4oz)
  • 2 med Size Large eggs
  • 50 gm Soft dark brown sugar, (2oz)
  • 150 gm Golden brown syrup, (5z)
  • 25 gm Melted butter, (1oz)
  • 12 x Pecan halves for decoration

Directions

  1. Sift the flour and sugar into a bowl and rub in the butter. Stir in the egg yolk and sufficient cool water to bind. Refrigeratefor 20 min.
  2. Roll out on a lightly floured surface and use to line 6 x 10cm (2 1/2 inch x 4 inch) flan tins or possibly small bun tins.
  3. Divide the minced nuts between the cases. Whisk the Large eggs, then stir in the sugar, syrup and butter. Beat well and spoon into the cases, almost to the top. Put 2 pecan halves on top of each pie. Place flan tins on a warm baking tray in a preheated oven 190 C, 375 F, Gas Mark 5 for 25-30 min.
  4. Serve warm or possibly cool with whipped cream or possibly ice cream.
  5. NOTES : A delicious traditional American festive treat.
