Ice Cold Watermelon Lemonade Recipe

What kind of drink can you make with watermelon?

I'm sure there are a number of drinks you could make with watermelon but I've only tried one.

That "one" happens to be this one.

It's a recipe idea I originally found in an old Canadian Living Magazine that was collecting dust at the cottage.

I meant to pack the magazine and bring it home but when we left the cottage at the end of the weekend I forgot to grab it. Bummer!

That wasn't the only bummer of the day. On the drive home a mouse (who apparently hitched a ride on my car) climbed onto the hood of my car when it came to a halt because of traffic. When the car moved again the mouse ran back under the hood giving my wife and I a big time heebie-jeebie moment as we thought it might somehow get it the car. Oh yeah...and later on in the drive my check engine light came on while we were on the highway just to add to the drama.

Fortunately, as with most things in life, everything balanced out.

The next day at home I found another Watermelon Lemonade recipe on a page I had ripped out of a Bon Appetit Magazine.

I made a slightly adapted version, served it on ice and it was awesome!

It's like sweet homemade style lemonade with a hint of watermelon flavor.

If I was setting up a lemonade stand on a hot sticky day this is what I would be serving! I'm already planning to make a big pitcher of it next time I head to the cottage!

As for the mouse...here's what happened. Soon after we saw it we pulled into a gas station to top up the tank and flush the little critter out. I honked the horn a few times and the mouse climbed back on the hood off my car. When it did I swiped it off the hood and onto the ground with a squeegee. It scurried away into the grass and I booked it back into my car.

Turned out the car didn't require fixing either. The check engine light came on because after I filled my car with gas I forgot to turn the gas cap one extra time to make it click. I'm not surprised I forgot because all I could think about at the time was what I would do if the mouse got into the car while we were on the highway.

In the end everything balanced out...just like the lemons and watermelon do in this tasty icy cold drink!
