Homemade Kahlua

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. powdered espresso
  • 4 c. sugar
  • 2 c. vodka
  • 2 whole vanilla beans

Directions

  1. Bring 2 c. water to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in the espresso powder and sugar until completely dissolved. Set aside to cool. Whisk several times while it is cooling so the sugar does not settle on the bottom.
  2. Add the vodka and stir very well to blend, then transfer to a bottle that has a tight-fitting lid. Slice the vanilla beans lengthwise and place them in the bottle. Secure the lid. Allow to set for about a month in a cool, dark place. Decant into smaller bottles, removing the vanilla bean.
  3. Enjoy a shot mixed into coffee, or by itself over ice.
