Ingredients
- 8 (5 cent) Hershey bars (without nuts)
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 4 large eggs
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 pkg. (4 ounce) German sweet chocolate
- 1 c. sifted powdered sugar
- 1 T Crisco
- 1/2 c. water
- Dash of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
- Heat chocolate over warm water and cool. Cream sugar, butter and Crisco. Add in large eggs, flavoring and buttermilk. Sift together flour, soda, and salt; add in to shortening mix and mix well. Stir in chocolate till blended. Pour batter into a well greased and lightly floured tube pan. Bake in slow oven, 300 degrees, approximately 1 1/2 hrs. Remove from pan while still hot. Place under a tightly fitting cover till thoroughly cool. Glaze.
- Heat chocolate and Crisco in water over low heat. Put together sugar and salt in medium bowl. Gradually stir in chocolate mix, blend well. Add in vanilla. For thinner glaze, add in a small amount of hot water. Spread over top of cooled cake and allow to run down sides.
