As someone who always loves a good flourless chocolate cake I was excited to try this week’s Heavenly Cake Baker recipe, Baby Chocolate Oblivions. The recipe called for the cakes to be baked in silicone cupcake pans, so I decided to use silicone rose pans about the same size and was thrilled with how they turned out. I ended up improvising for some of the baking directions because I don’t have a parve roasting pan or turkey baster (shocking, I know). It certainly did not make sense to buy them just for this recipe, since I do not envision I will be doing a lot of parve roasting in the future, so I just made due with what I had. .%20It%20certainly%20did%20not%20make%20sense%20to%20buy%20them%20just%20for%20this%20recipe,%20since%20I%20do%20not%20envision%20I%20will%20be%20doing%20a%20lot%20of%20parve%20roasting%20in%20the%20future,%20so%20I%20just%20made%20due%20with%20what%20I%20had.%20The%20cakes%20turned%20just%20fine%20in%20spite%20of%20the%20changes.%20I%20placed%20the%206%20cup%20mold%20(for%20half%20a%20recipe)%20in%20a%209%20x%2013%20baking%20pan%20without%20a%20rack%20(because%20my%20rack%20was%20too%20big)%20and%20poured%20the%20water%20for%20the%20water%20bath%20in%20there.%20I%20made%20a%20foil%20pan%20to%20place%20on%20top%20during%20baking,%20and%20when%20the%20cakes%20were%20done%20I%20carefully%20lifted%20the%20pan%20out%20of%20the%20water%20bath%20and%20placed%20it%20on%20the%20rack.%20I%20was%20worried%20they%20would%20break%20from%20all%20the%20shifting,%20but%20the%20cakes%20seemed%20to%20hold%20together%20just%20fine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20cake%20was%20delicious.%20It%20had%20a%20dense%20creamy%20texture%20that%20was%20like%20a%20cross%20between%20a%20cake%20and%20a%20truffle.%20I%20served%20it%20with%20a%20simple%20raspberry%20sauce%20to%20offset%20the%20richness.%20The%20cake%20reminded%20me%20of%20the%20cake%20that%20my%20family%20used%20to%20get%20for%20every%20birthday.%20A%20co-worker%20of%20my%20mom%E2%80%99s%20use%20to%20sell%20a%20similar%20flourless%20chocolate%20truffle%20cake%20and%20we%20would%20order%20them%20for%20every%20birthday%20and%20celebration.%20We%20called%20it%20%E2%80%9CNancy%E2%80%99s%20cake%E2%80%9D%20and%20would%20savor%20it%20in%20small%20slices.%20In%20retrospect%20it%20might%20be%20a%20bit%20strange%20that%20I%20requested%20this%20cake%20as%20an%20eight%20year%20old%20instead%20of%20something%20with%20piles%20of%20brightly%20colored%20buttercream,%20but%20it%20was%20my%20absolute%20favorite.%20Unfortunately%20Nancy%20moved%20away%20after%20only%20a%20few%20years,%20taking%20her%20recipe%20with%20her%20and%20leaving%20us%20to%20fend%20for%20ourselves%20when%20it%20came%20to%20birthday%20cakes.%20I%20have%20made%20many%20flourless%20chocolate%20cakes%20over%20the%20years%20(it%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20be%20Passover%20without%20them)%20and%20this%20cake%20comes%20closest%20to%20that%20creamy%20texture%20I%20remember%20loving%20about%20Nancy%E2%80%99s%20cakes.%20The%20cake%20has%20only%20four%20ingredients,%20chocolate,%20sugar,%20eggs%20and%20butter%20(for%20which%20I%20substituted%20margarine)%20so%20it%20is%20critical%20to%20use%20good%20quality%20chocolate%20for%20this%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20only%20complaint%20about%20this%20recipe%20is%20that%20it%20is%20so%20rich%20the%20individual%20cakes%20were%20too%20big%20for%20a%20single%20serving.%20I%20served%20them%20to%20a%20group%20of%20great%20dessert%20eaters,%20the%20kind%20of%20people%20who%20don%E2%80%99t%20turn%20down%20a%20rich%20dessert,%20especially%20one%20made%20of%20chocolate,%20and%20most%20people%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20finish%20much%20more%20than%20half.%20I%20might%20try%20making%20them%20in%20mini%20muffin%20tins%20next%20time,%20or%20as%20a%20larger%20cake%20that%20I%20could%20cut%20smaller%20servings%20from.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
