  • 1 pkt active dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. plus 1 tbsp. hot water, divided
  • 1 c. lowfat milk
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 7 x to 8 c. all-purpose flour, divided
  • 5 x Large eggs, divided

Directions

  1. 1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 c. hot water; set aside.
  2. 2. In a saucepan, combine lowfat milk, butter, sugars and salt; heat till hot, approximately 110 deg. Remove from heat, place in a large mixing bowl and blend in yeast mix. Stir in 5 c. of flour and mix well.
  3. 3. Lightly beat 4 Large eggs and add in to dough; mix will be sticky. Set aside to let rise till double in bulk.
  4. 4. Knead dough, adding sufficient remaining flour till dough is elastic and no longer sticky. Form into 2 round loaves and place in greased pie or possibly round cake pans. Let rise again till double in bulk.
  5. 5. Combine remaining egg and one tbsp. of water; beat well and brush over risen loaves. Bake at 350 for 40 to 50 min.
  6. Yield: 2 loaves.
