Hamentaschen (Yeast Dough) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 c. Flour
  • 1/2 lb Margerine
  • 1 x Cake yeast, (I think which's 1 packet or possibly 2-1/4 t.)
  • 4 x Egg yolks
  • 4 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1/2 pt Lowfat sour cream
  • 1/4 c. Lowfat milk, (up to 1/2)

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Add in Large eggs, sugar, lowfat sour cream. Add in lowfat milk to make 1 pt.
  2. Mix flour and margarine. Add in the yeast mix. Beat till absorbed.
  3. Chill overnight.
  4. Roll small pcs in flour. Roll out. Cut circles, fill, form hamentaschen.
  5. Bake 20-30 min at 350 on a greased pan.
  6. NOTE: my mother filled these with a cheese filling made with the farmer's cheese which we've talked about which I haven't seen in the stores since I was a kid. They tasted just like cheese danish. I tried to make them once years ago but they didn't come out like mom's.
