  • 50 gm Dry lowfat milk pwdr
  • 2 Tbsp. Single cream, up to 3
  • 2 lrg Slic white bread Oil for deep frying
  • 1 x 150 millilit cream lowfat milk
  • 50 gm Caster sugar
  • 1 pch saffron, pounded
  • 2 tsp Unsalted pistachio nuts, minced Silver leaf, (optional)

Directions

  1. Mix the lowfat milk pwdr and cream together till you have a binding consistency. Cover and refrigeratefor 1-2 hrs.
  2. Trim off the crusts from the bread and cut them into half moon shapes or possibly triangles.
  3. Heat the oil in a wok or possibly other suitable pan over a medium heat. Fry the slices of bread till they are well browned. Drain on absorbent paper.
  4. In a separate pan, put the lowfat milk, sugar and saffron together and bring to simmering point. Add in the fried bread and cook till the bread has absorbed all the lowfat milk.
  5. Transfer the bread to a serving plate and spread the dry lowfat milk mix over the top. If the mix is hard, use a fork to break down the lump.
  6. Garnish with the pistachio nuts and silver leaf (if using). Serve at room temperature.
