  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine sugar and water to make a syrup. Bring to boil and simmer for 20 min. Set aside to cold.
  2. Cream butter and sugar, add in egg yolks and continue beating. Sift flour, baking pwdr, soda and spices together. Combine with egg yolk mix. Add in orange juice, orange rind and walnuts.
  3. Beat egg whites till stiff and gently fold into the batter. Pour into greased 9x13 inch pan and bake for 30 min. Remove cake, pour cold syrup over the warm cake. Cut and serve when cool.
