Directions

  1. Mix 2 tsp. soda with 2 c. boiling water. Pour over dates. Let cold thoroughly. Cream together 2 c. sugar, 1 c. butter, 2 Large eggs, 2 c. flour, Healthy pinch salt, the date mix and 1 c. minced nuts. Bake in 13 x 9 inch pan at 350 degrees for 30 min (glass pan).
  2. Combine all sauce ingredients in saucepan. Cook 15 min over medium heat. To serve spoon sauce over individual slices of cake as sliced.
  3. My grandmother was from Cox Green, County Durham, England. She prepared this every year for Christmas Dinner dessert. Now which she's gone, my mother prepares it every year.
