Ingredients

Cost per serving $0.29 view details
  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. hot water
  • 1 c. lowfat milk, scalded, you want to let this cold before adding
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt (I use a little more salt)
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Soak yeast in hot water for few min. Add in lowfat milk, sugar, shortening and salt to yeast. Add in 1 1/2 c. of flour. Beat well. Add in egg and beat well. Gradually add in flour to create soft dough. Put rest of flour on dough board and knead it in till it is smooth and pliable.
  2. Place it in a large greased bowl and turn over so top will be greased. Cover with wax paper and set where it is hot, not warm, till it doubles in size. Knead it down once. Then next time it raises. Make it into rolls or possibly cinnamon rolls. It is a small batch. You can double or possibly triple the measurements, everything but the sugar. If I triple it, I just use 2 pkgs. of yeast.
