Ingredients
- 9 ounces red velvet cake mix (1/2 box)
- 1 whole egg
- ½ cup + 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoons vanilla yogurt
- 2 cups unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 whole eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup blue sprinkles
- tablespoon portions onto a cookie sheet lined with a Silpat or parchment

,%20but%20isn't%20making%20the%20dessert%20ahead%20helpful%20anyway?%20These%20stay%20soft%20for%20days%20in%20an%20airtight%20container,%20and%20the%20cake%20could%20be%20prepared%20a%20few%20days%20out%20too%20and%20frozen.%20Freezing%20the%20cake%20is%20optimal%20anyway%20because%20if%20you%20want%20to%20cut%20it%20then%20it%20should%20be%20frozen%20for%20at%20least%20an%20hour%20or%20so.%20If%20you%20plan%20on%20breaking%20the%20cake%20into%20pieces%20then%20you%20don't%20need%20to%20freeze%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20got%20a%20little%20wild%20and%20made%20my%20own%20sprinkles.%20That%20is%20definitely%20a%20day%20before%20project%20that%20takes%2010%20minutes%20of%20prep%20time%20then%20a%20day%20of%20setting%20up%20time.%20I%20used%20the%20recipe%20from%20I%20Am%20Baker%20and%20cut%20it%20in%20half.%20I%20didn't%20change%20it%20in%20any%20way%20and%20just%20added%20a%20neon%20blue%20food%20coloring%20to%20the%20icing%20mixture.%20I%20really%20just%20didn't%20want%20to%20go%20buy%20a%20whole%20container%20of%20blue%20sprinkles%20that%20would%20sit%20in%20my%20cabinet%20for%20who%20knows%20how%20long%20before%20I%20used%20them%20again.%20So,%20that's%20why%20I%20decided%20to%20make%20them.%20It's%20easier%20than%20you%20think%20and%20just%20basic%20ingredients.%20I%20also%20wanted%20the%20sprinkles%20to%20explode%20in%20the%20batter%20as%20it%20baked%20and%20not%20hold%20their%20shape%20in%20the%20cookie.%20The%20final%20product%20looks%20pretty%20much%20like%20I%20want%20it%20to%20because%20I%20was%20hoping%20for%20swirls%20of%20red,%20%22white%22,%20and%20blue.%20If%20you%20use%20store%20bought%20sprinkles%20in%20the%20cookies%20then%20they%20will%20probably%20hold%20their%20shape%20in%20the%20final%20product.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20knew%20I%20wouldn't%20achieve%20a%20bright%20white%20cookie%20but%20I%20was%20more%20concerned%20with%20the%20red%20and%20blue%20anyway.%20I%20will%20also%20say%20that%20I%20made%20the%20recipe%20for%20the%20cake%20using%20half%20the%20box,%20and%20only%20used%20half%20of%20the%20pan%20of%20cake.%20With%20the%20other%20half,%20I%20made%20more%20Red%20Velvet%20&%20Blueberry%20Trifles.%20You%20could%20always%20just%20frost%20it%20and%20have%20a%20small%20rectangular%20cake,%20make%20cake%20pops,%20or%20cut%20it%20in%20cubes%20and%20make%20another%20type%20of%20trifle%20with%20cream%20and%20fruit.%20I%20know%20using%20half%20a%20box%20of%20cake%20mix%20seems%20annoying%20but%20it's%20helpful%20to%20be%20able%20to%20do%20so%20that%20you%20can%20make%20multiple%20desserts%20and%20not%20just%20one%20cake%20:).%20What%20you%20see%20in%20the%20cookie%20in%20the%20picture%20above%20are%20tiny%20pieces%20of%20cake,%20which%20add%20a%20little%20texture%20and%20make%20the%20aesthetics%20a%20little%20more%20fun,%20don't%20you%20think?%20As%20always,%20feel%20free%20to%20comment%20or%20e-mail%20me%20with%20any%20questions%20you%20have%20:).%20Happy%20Baking!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirecracker%20Cookies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%20about%204%20dozen%20cookies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Preheat%20oven%20to%20350F.%20Line%20a%2012%E2%80%9D%20x%2012%E2%80%9D%20(or%209%E2%80%9D%20x%2013%E2%80%9D)%20pan%20with%20nonstick%20foil.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20the%20bowl%20of%20a%20mixer%20stir%20together%20the%20cake%20mix,%20egg,%20water,%20and%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eyogurt%20until%20blended.%20Mix%20on%20medium%20speed%20for%20about%202%20minutes.%20Pour%20into%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eprepared%20pan%20and%20bake%20for%2010-12%20minutes%20or%20until%20a%20toothpick%20inserted%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ein%20the%20middle%20comes%20out%20clean.%20Cool%20in%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECut%20the%20cake%20in%20half,%20reserve%20one%20half%20for%20another%20use.%20Freeze%20the%20cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ehalf%20for%20at%20least%201%20hour,%20then%20cut%20into%20%C2%BC%E2%80%9D%20cubes%20or%20break%20it%20into%20small%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Epieces.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20mixer,%20blend%20together%20the%20butter,%20brown%20sugar,%20and%20powdered%20sugar%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Euntil%20fluffy.%20Add%20the%20eggs%20and%20vanilla%20extract,%20mix%20until%20blended.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20flour,%20baking%20soda,%20and%20salt.%20Mix%20until%20just%20blended.%20Stir%20in%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Esprinkles%20and%20red%20velvet%20pieces%20until%20just%20blended.%20Scoop%20in%202%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etablespoon%20portions%20onto%20a%20cookie%20sheet%20lined%20with%20a%20Silpat%20or%20parchment%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Epaper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20Bake%20for%2012-14%20minutes%20or%20until%20lightly%20browned%20and%20cooked%20through%20but%20soft%20in%20the%20middle.%20Cool%20on%20a%20wire%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20may%20be%20linked%20up%20to:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDon't%20forget%20to%20follow%20me%20on%20Blog%20Lovin'%20or%20using%20one%20of%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%20buttons%20at%20the%20top%20of%20the%20page%20so%20you%20don't%20miss%20a%20recipe!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
