Favorite Birthday Cake Recipe

• 1 3/4 c. sifted flour
• 1/2 teaspoon baking pwdr
• 1 teaspoon soda
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/2 c. cocoa
• 1 1/2 c. sugar
• 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
• 2/3 c. buttermilk or possibly sour lowfat milk
• 1/2 c. cooled strong coffee
• 2 large eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2/3 c. sugar
• 1/2 c. light corn syrup
• 2 egg whites
• 3 T strong coffee
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
