Ingredients
- 3 c. All purpose flour
- 3/4 c. Packed golden sugar
- 4 tsp Baking pwdr
- 1 tsp Grnd cinnamon
- Healthy pinch of salt
- 14 Tbsp. (1 3/4 sticks) chilled unsalted butter, cut into pcs
- 2 lrg Large eggs
- 1/2 c. Minced candied orange peel
- 1/3 c. Dry currants
- 1/3 c. Golden brown raisins
- 1/4 c. Lowfat milk
- 1 x Egg, beaten to blend (glaze)
- 20 x Candied cherries, halved
- Slivered almonds
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400'F. Grease 2 large baking sheets. Mix first 5 ingredients in large bowl. Add in butter; rub with fingertips till mix resembles coarse meal, Add in 2 Large eggs, candied peel, currants, raisins and lowfat milk; stir to create soft dough. Divide dough into 20 pcs, each measuring a scant 1/4 C. Shape each into ball. Arrange on prepared baking sheets. Flatten tops slightly. Brush tops with egg glaze. Decorate each with 2 candied cherry halves for eyes and several slivered almonds for smile. Bake till golden brown, about 15 min. Serve hot or possibly at room temperature.
