Easy All Purpose Yeast Dough

Ingredients

  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Packages dry yeast
  • 3 teaspoon salt
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1/2 c. shortening, softened
  • 4 1/2 c. flour

Directions

  1. Combine warm water, sugar and yeast. Stir till dissolved. Add in salt and 2 c. flour. Beat for 2 min with a rotary mixer. Add in Large eggs and softened shortening. Beat for 1 minute. Then work in 4 1/2 c. flour. Cover and let rest for 20 min. Shape into desired recipe.
  2. STICKY BUNS: Take 1/2 of dough recipe. Roll into 9"x18" rectangle. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with 1/2 c. brown sugar. Roll like a sausage and seal the edges.
  3. Place 1 tsp. melted butter and 1 tsp. brown sugar in muffin or possibly cupcake sections; sprinkle with crushed walnuts. Cut dough into 18 slices. Place 1 in each of the muffin sections. Cover and let rise 40 to 50 min till doubled. Bake at 375 degrees for 18 to 20 min. Loosen from pan and invert to remove.
  4. You can make dinner rolls with the other half of the dough. Shape dough into long roll. Cut into 18 parts. Shape in a ball and place side by side in a greased 9"x13" pan. Let rise till doubled and bake as above.
  5. KOLACHY: 1/2 of dough recipe. Roll out into 1/2" thickness. Cut in circles. Place on a greased cookie sheet and let rise. Press an indentation into the center of the circle and fill with pie filling of your choice. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 15 min. Cold and frost edges with confectioners' sugar icing: 2 tbsp. lowfat milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
