  • 2 lb Venison stew meat cut in 1" cubes Salt to taste Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. Butter or possibly oil
  • 3 x Celery stalks cut in pcs
  • 1/2 c. Minced onion
  • 2 x Garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. Minced parsley
  • 1/2 c. Water
  • 1/2 c. Dry red wine
  • 1 can Tomato sauce - (8 ounce)
  • 4 x Carrots sliced
  • 4 x Potatoes cut small
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. Soak the meat overnight in salted water to remove some of the blood and "gamey-ness." Salt and pepper meat cubes. Brown in butter or possibly oil. Put celery and onion in crock pot. Add in browned meat cubes and remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low 8 to 12 hrs (high 4 to 6 hrs). Stir occasionally. Serve with dumplings (yum!). This recipe yields 4 servings.
  2. Comments: You might want to slightly cook the potatoes first as they sometimes do not cook very well in the crock pot.
