- 200g button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 410g tomato puree
- 1/2 cup beef stock
- 420g cream of mushroom
- 2 tbsp liver spread or spicy liver pate
- 8 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp dried whole basil
- grated parmesan cheese
- 3 tbsp sugar (adjust to your liking)

,%20a%20bit%20spicy,%20infused%20with%20ham,%20sausages%20or%20hotdog%20and%20is%20laden%20with%20lots%20of%20garlic.%20This%20already%20removes%20the%20Italian%20roots%20in%20the%20equation,%20but%20where%20might%20it%20possibly%20come%20from?%20The%20Chinese?%20Indian?%20American?%20Or%20Japanese?%20Well%20the%20closest%20dish%20in%20terms%20of%20flavour%20and%20ingredients%20is%20a%20pasta%20dish%20that%20came%20from%20Japan.%20Yes!%20in%20Japan%20there%20is%20a%20dish%20called%20Naporitan,%20it%20is%20a%20pasta%20dish%20using%20spaghetti%20noodles%20topped%20with%20tomato%20ketchup%20based%20sauce%20alongside%20other%20ingredients%20such%20as%20button%20mushrooms,%20sausage,%20bacon%20and%20sometimes%20Tabasco%20sauce.%20This%20in%20turn%20was%20inspired%20by%20a%20dish%20made%20out%20of%20spaghetti%20mixed%20with%20tomato%20ketchup%20served%20as%20military%20rations%20during%20the%20Japanese%20era%20GHQ.%20But%20if%20history%20suggest%20that%20Naporitan%20was%20inspired%20by%20the%20American%20rations%20then%20most%20probably%20we%20have%20those%20same%20rations%20in%20the%20Philippines%20on%20the%20first%20place%20as%20Americans%20were%20in%20the%20Philippines%20since%20the%20late%201800%E2%80%B2s%20and%20American%20GQH%20was%20established%20only%20in%20the%201940%E2%80%B2s.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDuring%20those%20times%20food%20history%20in%20the%20Philippines%20was%20barely%20recorded%20hence%20most%20of%20the%20researchers%20rely%20on%20stories%20the%20aging%20part%20of%20the%20population%20but%20what%20we%20do%20know%20is%20that%20the%20sweet%20style%20spaghetti%20started%20to%20become%20popular%20in%20the%201970%E2%80%B2s%20when%20it%20was%20sold%20in%20Makati%20supermarket.%20There%20are%20even%20claims%20that%20this%20dish%20is%20already%20popular%20in%20the%20Visayas%20region%20even%20before%201970%E2%80%B2s%20when%20it%20was%20sold%20in%20wet%20markets%20in%20plastic%20bags.%20Well%20we%20might%20not%20know%20until%20now%20where%20and%20when%20this%20dish%20originated%20but%20hopefully%20some%20good%20historian%20would%20find%20it%20out%20soon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20this%20post%20we%20will%20not%20be%20making%20the%20original%20sweet%20style%20spaghetti%20and%20if%20you%20are%20looking%20for%20it,%20you%20can%20go%20to%20this%20link.%20What%20we%20are%20posting%20though%20is%20another%20Filipino%20style%20spaghetti,%20with%20slight%20hint%20of%20sweetness%20but%20what%20it%E2%80%99s%20known%20for%20is%20the%20use%20of%20cream%20of%20mushrooms%20yielding%20a%20creamy,%20sweet,%20savoury%20and%20earthy%20spaghetti.%20My%20aunt%20used%20to%20make%20this%20a%20lot%20when%20I%20was%20younger%20saying%20that%20this%20is%20a%20better%20and%20posher%20alternative%20to%20the%20common%20Pinoy%20spaghetti%20due%20to%20its%20extra%20ingredients%20used.%20I%20will%20let%20you%20decide%20on%20which%20is%20better,%20the%20choice%20is%20yours.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMethod%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20In%20a%20large%20pan%20add%20oil%20then%20saut%C3%A9%20garlic%20and%20onions.%20Cook%20until%20onions%20are%20soft.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Add%20the%20minced%20beef%20and%20cook%20until%20beef%20turns%20light%20brown%20in%20colour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Add%20beef%20stock%20bring%20to%20a%20boil%20and%20simmer%20for%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Add%20tomato%20puree,%20tomato%20paste,%20cream%20of%20mushroom%20and%20basil.%20Bring%20to%20boil%20then%20simmer%20for%2015%20minutes%20in%20low%20heat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Add%20mushrooms%20and%20liver%20spread,%20cook%20for%205%20minutes.%20Add%20more%20beef%20stock%20if%20sauce%20becomes%20too%20thick.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20Season%20with%20salt,%20freshly%20ground%20black%20pepper%20and%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E7.%20Place%20pasta%20in%20a%20plate%20then%20pour%20sauce%20on%20top,%20sprinkle%20some%20parmesan%20cheese%20on%20top%20before%20serving.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
