This is the best cranberry sauce we have created. A bit of orange, spice and red wine add complexity to the sweet tart cranberries. It's perfect for Thanksgiving. It is also a wonderful topping for sweet potatoes, and for Hanukkah, Sweet Potato Latkes.
Ingredients
- 2 Bags Cranberries
- 1 cup fruity red wine
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 12 whole cloves
- 12 whole allspice
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- ½ orange, sliced
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1-2 Tb lemon juice
Directions
- Rinse berries and set aside. In a medium saucepan make a wine sugar syrup by combining all ingredients except for the fresh and dried berries and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Lower heat and simmer until reduced by 1/3 â about 20 minutes.
- Strain mixture and return to saucepan. Add both cranberries and cook until berries burst, about 10-15 minutes, stirring to prevent sticking. Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Cool. Taste and adjust flavor.
