%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhy%20cold-brew%20coffee?%20%20I%20can%20give%20you%20a%20few%20reasons:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%E2%80%99s%20less%20acidic%20than%20brewing%20hot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESmoother%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EReady%20to%20go%20when%20you%20want%20it,%20no%20waiting%20for%20a%20hot%20brew.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELess%20expensive%20than%20buying%20at%20a%20coffee%20shop.%20%20We%20calculated%20that%20our%20homemade%20iced%20coffee%20costs%20just%20$.75%20for%20the%20Grande%20size%20at%20Starbucks!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENo%20fancy%20equipment%20needed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEasy,%20no%20fuss.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20will%20want%20to%20pick%20the%20right%20type%20of%20beans%20for%20your%20cold%20brew.%20%20Go%20for%20a%20bright,%20Latin%20American%20roast%20with%20hints%20of%20cocoa%20and%20nuts.%20%20Buy%20WHOLE%20beans%20and%20freshly%20grind%20them.%20%20After%20testing%20a%20few,%20our%20favorite%20is%20the%20Pike%20Place%20Roast%20from%20Starbucks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20do%20not%20have%20a%20large%20coffee%20grinder,%20and%20it%20would%20be%20a%20pain%20to%20do%20it%20myself%20in%20our%20small%20one,%20so%20I%20buy%20the%20beans%20from%20our%20local%20Starbucks%20store%20and%20ask%20them%20to%20grind%20the%20beans%20for%20me.%20%20They%20will%20do%20this%20for%20you%20for%20free.%20%20Any%20coffee%20shop%20should.%20%20Tell%20them%20you%20want%20a%20coarse%20grind%20for%20a%20French%20press%20and%20they%E2%80%99ll%20know%20what%20to%20do!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20method%20is%20simple.%20%20Once%20you%20have%20your%20coarsely%20ground%20beans,%20place%20them%20in%20a%20large%20pitcher%20or%20container%20and%20pour%20in%20the%20room%20temperature%20water.%20%20Gently%20stir%20with%20a%20WOODEN%20spoon%20(NOT%20metal)!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECover%20and%20let%20it%20brew%20at%20least%2012%20hours%20and%20up%20to%2024%20hours.%20%20I%20just%20place%20mine%20on%20my%20countertop%20and%20let%20it%20sit%20overnight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20ready,%20strain%20it%20through%20a%20mesh%20strainer%20lined%20with%20cheesecloth,%20paper%20towel,%20or%20a%20filter.%20%20(I%20recommend%20the%20cheesecloth%20or%20paper%20towel%20the%20most.%20%20You%20will%20need%20to%20change%20out%20the%20paper%20towel,%20though,%20during%20the%20pours).%20%20The%20coffee%20filter%20method%20pictured%20above%20takes%20FOR-ev-AH!%20%20Drip%E2%80%A6drip%E2%80%A6.drip.%20%20;)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%E2%80%99s%20it,%20people!%20%20You%20now%20have%20your%20cold%20brew%20coffee%20concentrate!%20%20Fill%20your%20cup%20with%20ice,%20pour%20in%20the%20concentrate%20half%20full,%20then%20fill%20the%20rest%20with%20water%20or%20milk!%20%20You%E2%80%99ll%20have%20to%20experiment%20to%20figure%20out%20the%20ratio%20of%20coffee%20to%20water/milk%20that%20you%20like.%20%20My%20favorite%20is%20something%20like%201/2%20concentrate,%201/4%20water,%201/4%20milk%E2%80%A6then%20I%20add%20sweetener%20to%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpeaking%20of%20sweetener,%20soon%20I%E2%80%99ll%20share%20a%20recipe%20for%20liquid%20sugar%20you%20can%20add%20to%20your%20iced%20coffee%20so%20you%E2%80%99re%20not%20dealing%20with%20the%20gritty%20texture%20of%20sugar!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECold%20Brew%20Iced%20Coffee%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnjoy%20your%20summer%20cups%20of%20iced%20coffee%20in%20the%20comfort%20of%20your%20own%20home%20using%20this%20easy%20cold%20brew%20method,%20and%20save%20money%20during%20each%20sip!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20coffee%20beans%20in%20at%20least%20a%201%20gallon%20sized%20container%20or%20pitcher.%20Slowly%20pour%20the%206%20cups%20of%20water%20into%20the%20container,%20over%20the%20beans.%20Gently%20stir%20with%20a%20wooden%20spoon,%20just%20to%20saturate%20all%20beans.%20Cover%20tightly%20and%20let%20set%20at%20room%20temperature%20for%20at%20least%2012%20hours%20and%20no%20more%20than%2024%20hours.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELine%20a%20mesh%20strainer%20with%20cheesecloth%20or%20a%20paper%20towel.%20Set%20over%20a%20large%20bowl.%20Slowly%20pour%20some%20of%20the%20coffee%20through%20the%20strainer%20and%20allow%20to%20drip%20through.%20Change%20out%20the%20paper%20towel%20as%20needed.%20Continue%20to%20pour%20the%20liquid%20through%20until%20only%20beans%20and%20just%20a%20little%20liquid%20is%20left%20in%20the%20pitcher/container.%20(Stop%20before%20the%20bottom%20beans%20start%20dropping%20into%20the%20strainer.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStore%20in%20a%20covered%20pitcher%20or%20carafe%20in%20the%20fridge.%20To%20use:%20Mix%20desire%20amount%20of%20coffee%20concentrate%20with%20desired%20amount%20of%20water%20or%20milk.%20Sweeten%20to%20taste%20with%20choice%20of%20sweetener.%20I%20mix%20about%201/2%20cup%20of%20coffee%20with%201/4%20cup%20water%20and%201/4%20cup%20milk,%20then%20sweeten%20to%20taste.Notes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20double%20the%20recipe,%20use%20a%20MUCH%20larger%20container%20and%20use%2011.5%20cups%20water%20for%20a%201%20lb.%20bag%20of%20coffee.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20within%201%20week%20of%20grinding%20coffee%20for%20best%20flavor.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20coffee%20shop%20grind%20the%20beans%20for%20you,%20for%20free!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.5%3C/
