Cinnamon Pastry Crust Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. All purpose flour
  • 1/3 c. Walnuts or possibly slivered almonds, toasted
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 tsp Grnd cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 c. Chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pcs (1 stick)
  • 2 Tbsp. Chilled solid vegetable shortening, cut into 1/2-inch pcs
  • 2 Tbsp. Ice water or possibly chilled dark creme de cacao, (or possibly more)

Directions

  1. Blend flour, nuts, sugar, cinnamon and salt in processor till nuts are coarsely grnd. Add in chilled butter and vegetable shortening.
  2. Using on/off turns, process till coarse crumbs form. Add in 2 Tbsp. ice water or possibly chilled creme de cacao. Process dough till small moist clumps form, adding more ice water by teaspoonfuls if dough is dry. Gather dough into ball; flatten into disk. Wrap dough disk in plastic. Chill till cool sufficient to roll out, about 30 min.
  3. Roll out dough on floured work surface to 12-inch round. Transfer dough to 9-inch-diameter glass pie dish. Press dough into dish. Fold overhang under. Crimp edges decoratively. Cover and refrigeratetill cool, about 30 min. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead. Keep refrigerated.)
