Directions

  1. Place apples in a large Dutch oven and pour the honey over them. Cook on low heat for 5 min, stirring frequently till juices form. Cover and cook on medium heat till tender, about 15 min. Mash apples with a fork or possibly potato masher till desired consistency is reached. Season with additional honey (if you like), cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice. Chill.
  2. Makes 1 qt.
  3. This recipe may be multiplied to a bushel of apples or possibly more. She freezes the apple sauce. It also may be canned and processed in a water bath for 20 min.
  4. Yield: "4 c."
  5. Serving Ideas : Use as a topping for ice cream or possibly pudding
  6. NOTES : This applesauce (made without sugar) is almost like eating apple pie. It has been a favorite of her family for years.
