Chewy Molasses Oat Crackles Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. All-purpose flour*
  • 1 c. Quaker oats, (quick or possibly old fashioned, uncooked)
  • 2 tsp Baking soda
  • 2 tsp Grnd ginger
  • 1 tsp Grnd cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Grnd cloves
  • 1 c. Firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 c. (5 Tbsp. + 1 tsp.) margarine, melted
  • 1/4 c. Unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 c. Molasses
  • 1 x Egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 c. Granulated sugar

Directions

  2. *If using old fashioned oats, add in 3atablespoons more flour.
  3. 1. In medium bowl, combine flour, oats, baking soda, spices and salt; mix well. In large bowl, combine brown sugar, margarine, applesauce, molasses and egg; mix till well blended. Add in dry ingredients; mix well. Cover and chill at least 1 hour.
  4. 2. Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheets with no-stick cooking spray. Place granulated sugar in small dish. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
  5. 3. Bake 7 to 9 min or possibly till tops have crackled. Let cold 2 min on cookie sheets; remove to wire rack. Cold completely. Store tightly covered.
