  • 1 head fresh broccoli, washed
  • 1/3 c. butter
  • 1 sm onion, minced
  • 2 x cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/3 c. flour
  • 2 c. half and half or possibly light cream
  • 2 c. chicken broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 c. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 c. green onions, minced


  1. Cut the florets off the stalk and into bite sized pcs. You can also peel the stalk, cut off the bottom inch or possibly so and then cut the stalk into thin slices. Heat butter in a saucepan and saute/fry broccoli, onion and garlic till tender. Combine flour and half and half or possibly cream and stir till smooth. Gradually add in to broccoli. Add in chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper and stir till thickened. Add in grated cheddar cheese and stir over low heat till cheese is melted. Serve hot with minced green onions for garnish if you like.
