.%20%20His%20voice%20raised%20almost%20to%20a%20crescendo%20as%20he%20dipped%20down,%20opened%20the%20nightstand%20drawer%20and%20removed%20the%20cookies...Thin%20Mints...which%20everyone%20knows%20is%20any%20burglars%20cookie%20of%20choice.%20%20Then,%20as%20he%20ended%20his%20story,%20box%20securely%20in%20hand,%20he%20exited%20the%20room,%20surely%20thinking%20he%20had%20mesmerized%20me%20with%20his%20tales%20of%20yesteryear%20to%20the%20point%20that%20I%20didn't%20notice%20his%20theft.%20%20Whatever...I%20have%20more%20in%20the%20freezer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYears%20ago,%20for%20St.%20Paddy's%20Day,%20I%20created%20this%20soup%20for%20my%20kids...I%20told%20them%20about%20the%20Blarney%20Stone%20and%20how%20people%20were%20not%20only%20smooth%20talkers%20but%20NICE%20talkers...I%20dropped%20real%20rocks%20into%20their%20soup%20bowls%20and%20read%20them%20a%20little%20ditty%20I%20wrote%20-%20here's%20part%20of%20it:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlarney%20Stone%20Soup%20-%20Pots%20and%20Pins%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWith%20one%20sip%20of%20this%20soup%20you%20will%20find%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20everyone%20is%20very%20kind!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20will%20say%20and%20do%20the%20nicest%20things%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20day%20long%20your%20heart%20will%20sing!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Blarney%20Stone's%20magic%20only%20lasts%20one%20day,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20if%20you%20try%20real%20hard,%20maybe%20you'll%20stay%20this%20way!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20were%20duly%20impressed%20-%20for%20about%205%20minutes.%20%20The%20boy%20loved%20eating%20soup%20with%20a%20rock%20in%20it,%20the%20girl%20turned%20up%20her%20nose%20and%20would%20have%20thrown%20the%20rock%20at%20her%20brother%20had%20I%20not%20intervened.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20I%20did%20what%20all%20good%20mothers%20did,%20I%20lied%20to%20them%20about%20the%20rocks.%20%20I%20told%20them%20they%20were%20%22chips%20off%20the%20old%20block%22%20from%20Blarney%20Castle%20-%20the%20boy%20LOVED%20his%20rock%20and%20kept%20it%20in%20his%20room%20in%20a%20special%20box%20for%20years.%20%20The%20girl%20was%20on%20to%20me%20from%20the%20get-go.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAbout%20those%20rocks...your%20basic,%20garden-variety%20rock%20will%20work%20just%20fine,%20provided%20you%20can%20lie%20like%20an%20Irishman.%20%20Just%20boil%20them%20in%20water%20for%20a%20bit%20to%20remove%20any%20mold,%20dirt%20or%20dog%20pee.%20%20Drop%20a%20rock%20into%20each%20soup%20bowl,%20and%20cover%20with%20the%20most%20delicious%20Potato-Pea%20Soup%20ever.%20%20Serve%20it%20up%20steamy%20hot%20with%20a%20slice%20or%20two%20of%20Irish%20Soda%20Bread%20(the%20Americanized%20version%20made%20with%20sugar%20is%20SO%20much%20better!)%20and%20you'll%20have%20yourself%20a%20great%20meal%20for%20St.%20Paddy's%20Day%20or%20any%20other%20%22Spring%22%20occasion!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlarney%20Stone%20Soup%20-%20Pots%20and%20Pins%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20butter%20in%20large%20soup%20pot.%20%20Add%20onion%20and%20cook%20over%20medium-high%20heat%20for%20about%205%20minutes.%20%20%20Add%20broth%20and%20bring%20to%20a%20boil.%20%20Add%20remaining%20ingredients,%20bring%20back%20to%20a%20boil%20and%20stir%20until%20smooth.%20%20Reduce%20heat%20and%20cook%20for%2015%20minutes.%20%20Using%20an%20immersion%20blender,%20blend%20the%20soup%20until%20smooth.%20%20(You%20can%20use%20a%20regular%20blender,%20transfer%20the%20soup%20in%20batches%20and%20blend%20until%20smooth.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMeanwhile,%20in%20a%20small%20pan,%20boil%20rocks%20covered%20in%20water%20for%2010%20minutes.%20%20Remove%20with%20tongs%20and%20place%20one%20rock%20into%20each%20bowl.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20want%20your%20soup%20to%20be%20thinner,%20add%20more%20stock.%20%20Before%20serving,%20taste%20for%20seasonings,%20add%20more%20salt%20and%20pepper%20if%20desired.%20To%20serve,%20pour%20soup%20over%20rock%20and%20top%20with%20a%20drizzle%20of%20cream.%20%20Serves%206.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22May%20the%20grass%20grow%20long%20on%20the%20road%20to%20Hell%20for%20want%20of%20use.%22%20%20~%20Irish%20Toast%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20year%20ago:%20%20Quilt%20Show%20Pictures%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETwo%20years%20ago:%20%20Caveman%20Ham%20and%20Cheese%20Sandwiches%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
