Ingredients
- 2 c. lowfat milk
- 1 env plain gelatin
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 4 Tbsp. cool water
- 4 x egg yolks, beaten (use whites later)
- 2 sqr baking chocolate, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 x egg whites
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 pt whipping cream, whipped
- 3 Tbsp. powdered sugar
- 2 sqr baking chocolate, grated
- 1 x pie shell, baked
Directions
- Preparation:Soak gelatin in cool water (set aside). Scald lowfat milk & add in sugar & cornstarch. Stir till smooth. Add in beaten egg yolks. Cook in top of a double boiler till thick, stir constantly. Stir in dissolved gelatin. Divide custard into halves. Add in chocolate & vanilla to one half. Pour into a baked pie shell. Cold remaining half of custard. Beat egg whites & cream of tartar & slowly add in 1/2 c. of sugar. Blend with cooled custard. Spread over top of chocolate layer. Refrigeratein refrigerator. Whip cream & sweeten with 3 TBS powdered sugar. Top custard with sweetened whipped cream. Sprinkle grated chocolate on top of whipped cream. Refrigeratewell before serving.
