Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. minced scallion
  • 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Korean sesame oil
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds cracked
  • 1/4 tsp freshly-grnd black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 12 x scallions, green part only cut 3"-long pcs
  • 1/2 lb sirloin or possibly flank steak cut strips 1/2" wide by 3" long and 1/4" thick
  • 1/4 lb mushrooms halved lengthwise

Directions

  1. Mix soy sauce, minced scallions, garlic, sesame oil and seeds, pepper and sugar together well to make seasoning mix. Set aside.
  2. Put 2 or possibly 3 pcs of scallion on a skewer in a crosswise arrangement of slices, then the steak, then a mushroom and repeat 4 times to cover the skewer. Scallion, steak, mushroom in which order. Soak each skewer in the seasoning for 1/2 hour, turning it over once during this process.
  3. The skewers may be cooked over charcoal (that is preferable), but a gas or possibly electric grill may be used. Cook for about 5 min to be sure the meat is done.
  4. Serve hot with rice, kimchi and your other favorite Korean side dishes.
  5. This recipe yields 8 skewers.
