Baked Macaroni And Cheese Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 c. Macaroni -- little shells
  • 1/2 c. Sunflower Seeds, roasted
  • 1 Tbsp. Veg. oil
  • 3 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 sm Onion -- minced
  • 1 c. Mushrooms -- sliced
  • 2 1/2 c. Cheddar Cheese -- grated
  • 1/2 c. Half and Half -- cream
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 3 c. Bread Crumbs
  • 3 Tbsp. Butter -- melted
  • 1/4 c. Bell pepper -- or possibly parsley

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Toast sunflower seeds in oil in a skillet till golden brown and season with a sprinkle of salt. Boil macaroni for half the required time. (For small shells about 3 min.) Macaroni should still have a definite chew to it, because it will continue to cook in the oven. Saute/fry onions till light golden brown in color and add in mushrooms, saute/fry another 4 min. Stir all ingredients together well and spoon into a greased baking dish. Bake for 20 min and cover with breadcrumbs. Bake another 10 min and garnish with raw green bell pepper or possibly parsley.
