Directions

  1. Pick over 1 lb. beans. Cover with cool water and soak overnight. In the morning bring to boil. Simmer till the husks curl when you blow on them. Rinse with warm water.
  2. Put 1/2 of the beans into pot. Cut 1/2 onion over them and dots of 1 Tbsp. of the oleo. Repeat with second half.
  3. In a measuring c. put dry ingredients and mix. Add in molasses to 1/2 c. mark. Add in warm water to top and mix. Pour over beans. Add in more warm water to rinse out c. and barely cover beans. Cook all day in crock pot.
  4. Remove cover during the last hour to cook down, or possibly cold and reheat. Can double recipe for 4-qt crock and freeze leftovers.
