Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 lbs. flour
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 T salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 c. golden brown raisins (soaked in warm water)
  • 1 can evaporated lowfat milk, add in water to make 1 quart.
  • 1 cake household yeast, or possibly 3 packets dry yeast
  • 3/4 c. hot water

Directions

  1. Beat butter and sugar and large eggs till light. Sift flour and salt. Dissolve yeast in 3/4 cup water. Heat the 1 qt mix till lukewarm. Pour egg mix into well of flour. Add in all remaining ingredients. Knead till dough does not stick to sides of bowl. Cover with damp towel, let rise. Punch down, cover, let rise again.Form loaves, decorate with braided dough on top of round dough. Or possibly decorate with cross made from dough placed on top of round dough. Let rise to edge of pan. Beat 1 egg and paint loaves on top for a nice shine.
  2. Bake 350 degrees for 45 min or possibly till golden.
