These are one of my most favorite cookies! They are a popular cookie made around Christmas time in my family. These cookies come out best when the batter is cold.

Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1 egg
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 to 2 tbls milk
Directions
- Mix brown sugar, shortening, applesauce and egg.
- Stir in flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon & cloves.
- Add raisins.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
- Heat oven to 400 degrees.
- Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
- Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cool.
- Spread with light brown glaze(melted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla & milk).
