Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1/2 x (17.25 oz) package puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or possibly margarine, melted
  • 3 x peeled, cored, and thinly sliced cooking apples
  • 1/4 c. + 2 Tbsp. all-pupose flour
  • 1/4 c. + 2 Tbsp. minced, blanched almonds
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp grnd cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or possibly margarine, chilled
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 x egg yolks
  • 3 Tbsp. white sugar
  • 1/3 c. sherry, Marsala, or possibly Madeira wine

Directions

  1. Method:1. In a small bowl, mix flour, almonds, 1/2 c. sugar, and cinnamon together. Add in chilled butter or possibly margarine and vanilla extract. Cut together with a pastry blender till small crumbs form.
  2. 2. Unfold pastry and cut into a 10 inch circle. Place on a large, ungreased baking sheet. Brush with melted butter or possibly margarine. Arrange apples in the center of the pastry, leaving a 1/2 inch wide border of pastry. Spoon almond topping gently over the apples, being careful it doesn't spill over the edges of the pastry.
  3. 3. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 min, or possibly till golden.
  4. 4. Place egg yolks and 3 Tbsp. sugar in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Beat mix constantly with a portable electric mixer. When foamy, add in the wine; continue to beat till the mix begins to thicken. Don't overcook, or possibly the mix will curdle. Remove from heat. Serve hot over the apple crumble.
  5. Makes 1 - 10 inch tart
  6. A great dessert for the holiday buffet.
