Directions

  1. CAKE: Mix yeast, salt, 4 Tablespoons sugar, and 3/4 c. flour. Add in butter to lowfat milk.
  2. Heat till very hot (120-130 degrees F.). Gradually add in lowfat milk to flour mix. Beat for 2 min. Add in egg and 1/2 c. flour. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed for 2 min. Fold in sufficient flour to create a soft dough. Knead for 5 - 10 min, till dough is shiny and elastic.
  3. Place in greased bowl and let rise for 1 hour or possibly till doubled in bulk. Pat dough into well-greased 10-inch springform pan pressing the dough 1 1/2 inches up the sides of the pan. Or possibly use 11x8 pan, grease well.
  4. FILLING: Lay apple slices across bottom, combine sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over apples. Add in raisins, butter, and almonds. Bake in a preheated 400 degree F. oven till pastry is brown and apples bubbly with syrup, about 45 min. Sprinkle confectioner's sugar over top.
