  • 1/2 c. (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking pwdr
  • 1 x egg
  • 6 lrg Macintosh apples
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream together butter and sugar in an electric mixer. Add the rest of the ingredients, and mix just till the dough is crumbly, but holds together. Don't over-mix.
  2. Butter or possibly spray a 9" loose bottom pan, or possibly a form on a baking sheet. The sides should be about 2" high. Press the dough into the form and up the sides.
  3. Peel, core, and halve the apples. Slice each half, making vertical slices about 1/8" wide - keeping the shape of the apple halves. Arrange on the crust.
  4. Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 350 F for 25 to 35 min, till the crust turns golden, and the apples soften.
