Directions

  1. Add in soda to boiling water. Cool. Cream shortening and sugar; add in large eggs and blend well. Stir in buttermilk, flour and salt; add in soda and water. Put together remaining dry ingredients and add in to first mix. Fill well greased muffin tins 2/3 full. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 min. Store remaining batter in refrigerator. It will stay fresh for 6 weeks when stored in air tight plastic container.
