Pyrohy Pusher Profile
I started cooking (occasionally) when I was about 7yrs, but I was about 10yrs when I became hooked on cooking for life.
My Grandparents were looking after us while my parents were away & I was invited into the kitchen to learn how to prepare/cook some of my Ukrainian heritage - Pyrohy (Pierogies) - was the order of the day.
I spent all day (9 to 5) making 10 dozen Pyrohy with my Grandparents & my two older brothers along with us devoured all 10 dozen among other items at supper. I was upset, but then my Grandpa said, "if everyone is silent and the food is all gone, it's got to be pretty good." I thought to myself & realized he was right. It was at that point that I became the official Ukrainian cook for family & friends & remains today.
I went on to learn to make Holopchi, Borscht & other "family trade secrets." To this day, my brothers are always requesting more pyrohy. My husband & I make a great team in the kitchen & we have done much "mass production" in the past years.
My specialties include, but not limited to - Pyrohy, Holopchi, Traditional New York Cheese Cake, and Sweets (chocolate) - I just love to cook! Let's get cooking. :0)
My health has since taken several wrong turns in the past 5 years & I am not able to cook the way I used to, but when the urge strikes & if I'm feeling okay that particular day, then it's off to the kitchen. My attitude has been "Let's get cook'in!"
My Grandparents, my Mom & Dad and many, many different cookbooks! I just love to cook! :0)
