I love Cheesecake! There I said it.
Hi, I was born and grew up a city girl in the big city of Minneapolis. Almost 8 years ago, my husband and I moved to a small town. It has been a lot of fun learning about the customs and habits of small town folk. I must say, I really enjoy life in our town. Between the two of us, we have 7 children. Six sons, and one daughter. And she's the baby. They are all full grown and on their own and having babies of their own. It's exciting to see the process bloom.
Over the years we have traveled throughout the country and a little into Canada and Europe. We have hosted exchange students and learned about their cultures and customs, and I hope we were able to share our cultures and customs with them. We have also explored many new foods, as one rule my husband has is that each student is to cook an authentic meal that they would have at home. This once translated to homemade candy with our girl from Brazil. Candy is a meal in Brazil, she stated. We all enjoyed our meal.
My biggest joy is menu planning when all of the kids come home. Baking treats for dessert, and trying out new dishes (this year for Thanksgiving I'm going to try a stuffing that has cranberries as an ingredient - my husband is skeptical). We will have 6 of our 'own' kids, and 1 daughter from South Korea joining us around the table for a traditional turkey meal. I can't wait.
My mom is a great old fashioned baker. She uses a recipe book that she bought at a church garage sale and the rest are from memory. She didn't teach us to cook or to bake. However, all of the sweet smells that drifted out of the kitchen were enough to motivate us to hone our skills as well. When people compliment my cooking, it's hard to be appreciative, because even though they don't know, I know, that it doesn't come close to the quality of my mother's cooking and baking.
